Plukon Food Group is proud to announce that our near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation confirms that our climate goals are grounded in the latest climate science and aligned with the ambition to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and well below 2°C in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
Approved Targets
Energy & Industry (E&I) Targets
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030, from a 2022 base year.
- Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions, including purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel– and energy-related activities, transportation and distribution (upstream and downstream), waste, business travel, employee commuting, and investments, by 25% by 2030, also from a 2022 base year.
- These targets include land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) Targets
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 3 FLAG emissions by 30.3% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
- Commit to no deforestation across primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
- These targets include FLAG-specific emissions and removals.
Why it matters
With these commitments, Plukon joins a growing list of companies actively working toward a low-carbon, sustainable future. This validation underlines our responsibility and determination to minimize environmental impact while feeding a growingglobal population.
Looking ahead
Plukon will report publicly on our progress annually and continue to take action in line with the Science Based Targets initiative’s criteria and methodology.
Understanding the categories of emissions is essential to grasp the scale and ambition of our climate targets:
- Scope 1 emissions are direct GHG emissions from sources we own or control, such as fuel used in our factories and vehicles.
- Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from purchased energy, for example, electricity used at our processing sites.
- Scope 3 emissions are all other indirect emissions across our value chain. This includes emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transport, waste, and business travel, which together represent the largest share of our footprint.
- FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) emissions are emissions and removals related to land use, farming, and deforestation. This category is especially relevant for food producers like Plukon. Our FLAG targets cover key commodities and also include a commitment to no deforestation by the end of 2025.
These categories ensure a comprehensive, science-based approach to tackling climate change across our entire business and supply chain.
