Plukon Food Group enters into unique wind power purchase agreement with Eneco and Rabobank

Wezep, 15 July 2024 Plukon Food Group enters into unique wind power purchase agreement with Eneco and Rabobank.

Plukon Food Group (Plukon) enters into a long-term contract with Eneco for green power from Ecowende, a new, ecological offshore wind farm off the coast of IJmuiden. Rabobank developed a special product for this, called PPAssurance, which helps make the purchase agreement possible. This agreement is an important step in Plukon’s sustainability efforts and promotes further sustainability in the chain.

The expected continued rapidly growing energy demand and the government’s formulated targets for offshore wind energy off the Dutch coast of 21 GW in 2030 and 70 GW in 2050 require innovative solutions. The cooperation between Plukon, Scholt Energy, Eneco and Rabobank contributes to the transition to sustainable energy supply.

“This cooperation enables us to make our energy supply more sustainable, which is crucial for our long-term sustainability goals,” said Kees Kraijenoord, CEO of Plukon. “Plukon is determined to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable world. By investing in renewable energy as well as in energy efficiency and reducing water consumption and transport distances, we aim to create an integrally sustainable production chain.”

Through Rabobank’s PPAssurance, which provides essential guarantees to developers and eliminates the need for traditional credit ratings, Plukon can now sign a deal with Eneco for the direct supply of green energy from the Ecowende wind farm. This makes Plukon one of the frontrunners in this field.
